Choosing Flooring for a Commercial Gym
Thickness by zone
3/4" (18mm) for free-weight areas, Olympic lifting platforms and anywhere weights are dropped regularly. 1/2" (12mm) is the minimum we recommend for high-traffic weight rooms. 5/16" to 3/8" (8mm to 9mm) works for cardio rows, stretching and mobility areas. See the thickness guide.
Rolls, tiles or mats
Rubber rolls cover large open floors with the fewest seams. 24" interlocking tiles suit spaces you may reconfigure or where you want to replace a worn section. Precision-cut mats cover equipment stations and lifting platforms. Indoor turf adds sled and agility lanes.

Commercial Gym Flooring FAQs
What thickness of rubber flooring do commercial gyms use?
3/4" (18mm) in free-weight and lifting areas where weights are dropped, and at least 1/2" (12mm) across high-traffic weight rooms. Thinner 8mm to 9mm rubber is fine for cardio and stretching zones.
Should a commercial floor use rolls or tiles?
Rolls give the cleanest, most seamless finish on large floors. Interlocking tiles are easier to install in sections and to replace later. Many facilities use rolls for the main floor and mats on platforms and equipment stations.
Does commercial rubber flooring need to be glued down?
Interlocking tiles need no glue. For large roll installs, flooring adhesive or double-sided tape keeps seams from shifting under heavy traffic. See how to install rubber gym flooring.
How is commercial flooring shipped?
Larger orders ship by freight. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your location and the weight and size of your order, and we charge what the carriers charge us. See how to prepare for your freight delivery.
What is the warranty?
Rubber flooring rolls, 24" interlocking tiles and precision-cut mats carry a 5-year warranty.
