What is 5-HTP?
5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is the intermediate metabolite the body produces when converting the essential amino acid L-tryptophan to serotonin. It's a serotonin precursor that can be taken directly, bypassing the tryptophan hydroxylase rate-limiting step. Thorne's 5-HTP is extracted from the seeds of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia.
Why 5-HTP instead of L-tryptophan?
