Ordering & Customization
How thick should my flooring be?
It depends on your training style and equipment. 6mm — light weights, stretching, bodyweight work. 8mm — home gyms, functional trainers, squat racks, treadmills. 9mm — CrossFit/commercial, heavier drops. 12mm — Olympic lifting, frequent barbell drops. 18mm — powerlifting, extreme drops, industrial use.
What's the difference between Confetti, Natural Recycle, and Standard rubber?
It comes down to material source and consistency. Confetti uses mixed-color recycled scraps (speckled look, slight variation roll to roll) and color patterns can differ across different pieces and orders. Natural uses more neutral/black recycled scraps (muted gray-black look). Standard uses controlled materials for the most uniform color and density.
Can I order a custom color/thickness combo?
Yes, for larger orders. 5,000+ sq ft: email info@living.fit. Custom thickness/color under 1,100 sq ft: same email, we'll quote it.
Can I get a free sample before ordering?
Yes — click "Order a Free Sample" under the Add to Cart button on this page for a physical swatch before you commit.
How can I contact you with questions?
Email us at info@living.fit or use the chat icon and we'll help.
How much flooring do I need?
Multiply the room's length by width for total square footage, then order a little extra for trimming. Rolls are 4 ft wide, so larger rooms need multiple rolls side by side. Use the calculator on this page for an exact quote.
Can I order shorter rolls? I'm worried about the weight.
Our rubber flooring rolls are 4 feet wide with an 11-foot minimum cut length, so the smallest roll is about 44 sq ft. At 1/2" thickness that's a heavy piece to move solo, especially down stairs. If you need something more manageable to transport and install, we recommend our Rubber Gym Mats instead — same USA-made rubber as the rolls, but pre-cut in shorter lengths starting at 6 feet. They're far easier to carry into position, require no cutting, and let you build out your space one manageable piece at a time. Shop mats here: https://www.living.fit/collections/rubber-mats
How long will my order take to arrive?
Your delivery window for each option is shown on this page. Quick Ship orders typically arrive in about a week, and Standard orders in about two weeks. Every roll is cut to your exact length after you order, so the timing depends on which option you choose.
What's the difference between Quick Ship and Standard?
Both are cut to your custom length after you order. The difference is when your order gets cut:
Standard: we group orders by length and cut them in batches every few days. Cutting all orders of one length before moving to the next saves production time, and we pass those savings on in a lower price.
Quick Ship: we pull your order out of the batch cycle and cut it right away, so it arrives about a week sooner.
Cutting a Quick Ship order means pausing the batch in progress, resetting the line for your length, and then resuming the batch. That interruption takes extra production time, and the Quick Ship price covers it. If your timeline is flexible, Standard gets you the same cut-to-length flooring for less.
Installation
Do rolls need to be glued down?
No — tape is enough for most home gyms. The rubber's weight keeps it in place day to day; double-sided tape along seams and perimeter prevents shifting under heavy equipment. Full glue-down is only needed for commercial or high-traffic spaces.
Does the roll come with tape included?
No — tape is available as a separate accessory add-on, not included with the flooring roll itself.
How much adhesive do I need, and does it bond to concrete?
Yes, it bonds to concrete, including smooth-finished surfaces. Clean and dry the surface first, then apply the adhesive as a full spread across the entire floor at the trowel and spread rate listed on the adhesive's product page. The adhesive calculator there tells you how much to order. For most home gyms, tape is enough. Glue is best for commercial, high-traffic, or heavy-equipment spaces.
Can this be installed over concrete or existing floors?
Yes — concrete, wood, and other hard surfaces all work well and give the most stable base.
Are these waterproof?
Rubber flooring is generally water-resistant rather than fully waterproof. This means it can handle spills and moisture without absorbing water or getting damaged.
Will this protect my hardwood floor, and how does it install — do I need to glue it down or does it just lay in place?
Yes. At 1/2" thick, these rolls provide full impact absorption and protect the floor underneath — including hardwood — from equipment load, dropped plates, and scuffing. Installation is loose-lay: for most home gyms, no adhesive is required. You simply roll it out and it stays in place under its own weight. On smooth surfaces like hardwood, we recommend running double-sided flooring tape around the perimeter (and in a light grid for larger areas) to prevent shifting in high-traffic zones. Because it isn't permanently bonded, the flooring lifts cleanly if you ever rearrange or move — no residue, no damage to the hardwood beneath.
Rolls or tiles — which is better for my space?
For open, rectangular rooms, rolls give a more seamless look with fewer joints. For smaller or irregularly shaped spaces, tiles are easier to fit and install piece by piece.
How do you cut rolls during installation?
Score with a utility knife along a straight edge, then make multiple passes to cut through cleanly. Measure carefully and leave a little extra material for a precise fit.
Does rubber flooring damage concrete or garage floor sealers?
No — it protects concrete rather than damaging it. One caution: rubber can occasionally react with certain sealers or freshly coated concrete. Use a vapor barrier or let sealed floors fully cure before installing.
Do I need underlayment?
No — the dense rubber itself provides cushioning and impact absorption in most cases.
How do I make edges lie down.
When first received, rolls and mats (especially thicker pieces) may have edges that point up (illustrated in video). This is common. Please place weights on the ends for a couple of days to reduce any bend you see.
Performance & Durability
Will it protect my subfloor and reduce noise from dropped weights?
Yes — it absorbs impact and reduces vibration and noise from heavy equipment and dropped weights.
Is it waterproof, and can I use it in a basement?
Yes to both. Rubber is naturally water-resistant, making it suitable for garages, basements, and other moisture-prone spaces.
Can I put heavy gym equipment directly on it?
Yes — it's built to support squat racks, treadmills, benches, and functional trainers.
How long does it last?
Many years with normal use — lifespan depends on thickness and intensity of use, but it's built to handle heavy equipment and repeated impact.
Can it be used outdoors?
It's designed primarily for indoor use. It can handle some outdoor exposure, but prolonged sun and weather will wear it faster over time.
How does it compare to foam mats?
It's significantly more durable and handles heavy weights and equipment, where foam mats are better suited to light exercise only.
Care & Other
How do I clean and maintain it?
Sweep or vacuum regularly, and mop occasionally with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
Will it smell like rubber?
A mild odor is normal at first, especially with recycled rubber, and fades after airing out and cleaning. Higher-grade rubber has less odor to begin with.
Why do rolls sometimes arrive slightly longer than ordered?
This is intentional — the extra length gives installers enough material to square the flooring for a clean final fit.
Is Living.Fit flooring made in the USA?
Many of our rubber flooring products are manufactured in the USA using high-quality recycled rubber, to residential and commercial durability standards.
How do I clean rubber flooring?
Sweep or vacuum, then damp-mop with water or a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid solvents, bleach, and oil- or citrus-based cleaners, which degrade rubber. New rubber may have an initial odor that fades with airing out.
Installation
How much tape do I need?
Each roll of tape is 3 in. × 75 ft. For a 10×10 room, that's about 40 ft to tape the edges and seams (1 roll), about 60 ft with cross-strips every 4 ft (1 roll), or about 100 ft for a full grid under heavy equipment (2 rolls). The calculator on the tape page gives an exact roll count for your room, including extra for overlap.
Where should I put the tape?
For most home gyms, run tape along the outer edges and under every seam. For busier spaces, add strips across the floor about every 4 ft. For heavy equipment or high traffic, run a grid about every 3 ft in both directions so nothing moves under load.
How do I prep the floor before taping?
Clean the subfloor and let it dry completely. Tape won't hold on dust or a damp surface.
The tape liner is hard to start. How do I peel it?
Don't pick at the edge. Bend the end of the tape strip sharply backward over your finger, which pops the liner off the adhesive. Then grab the corner and peel it off in one clean pull.
Will I need to cut my rolls?
Most installs need at least a few cuts. Rolls come in set widths and lengths, so you'll typically trim the last roll to fit the width of your room, cut roll lengths to meet the wall (rolls can arrive slightly longer than ordered), and cut around doorways, posts, floor drains, or rack feet. A utility knife and a long straightedge handle all of it.
What tools do I need to install rubber flooring?
A tape measure, a long metal straightedge, a marker or chalk line, and a sharp utility knife. For rolls or mats, add double-sided tape if you want to keep pieces from shifting. No special equipment is needed.
How do I cut around rack feet, posts, or corners?
Trace the shape onto cardboard, test the fit, then transfer it to the rubber. Cut with a utility knife using several light passes rather than forcing one deep cut. Cut slightly outside the line, then trim to fit.
