How Do Battle Ropes Work?

In my observation there are three types of people when it comes to battle ropes. These three types of people will provide context for how battle ropes work.
 
The first type of person loves the intensity and challenge that the battle rope provides. Even if they don't know how they work, this person knows that they work. Why else would this person's arms, abs, and upper back get so pumped and fatigued?
 
The second type of person looks at the battle rope, and immediately sees it as a joke, because it isn't what they do.
 
The third type of person treats the rope like all other resistance tool in the gym. As long as they can feel resistance with the battle rope, they know it works, at least to some degree.
 
Each person has decided to use (or not use) the ropes based off of their past experiences. Their past is limiting their abilities to use the ropes well.

7 Tips When There is No Time To Workout

 
It happens to all of us. The best intentions and well-thought out plans will inevitably be taken over by the duties of work, parenthood, or even just laziness. A good workout will do more than just make you sweat. The thing I try to impart on every attendee to a certification or workshop is that LESS IS MORE. More often a shorter, concentrated session can be far more beneficial than a long, drawn out sweat-fest. With that said there will be times when you’ve allotted yourself an hour that magically transforms into 10-20 minutes. Here are 7 tips to get the most from a session cut short or even if you just need a break and want to get more from less. 
 
The main thing is you can’t let it get to you. Stress is a killer and the added stress of trying to fit in a 60 minute session when you can do an incredible amount of work in fifteen minutes will ruin a perfectly good workout. Are Battle Ropes Good?

The question, "are battle ropes good?" is sort of asking if money is good?

It depends on if you have the knowledge to use it well, you are using it well, and it is helping you get to an ethical end-result.

If you do not have very much knowledge of what money is, how it works, and why people use it, I am guessing you would either be intimidated by it, dislike it, or even fear it.

Humans will always fear the unknown.

I think it was said best by H.P. Lovecraft, when he said, "“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” in his book Supernatural Horror in Literature.

For those of you that are well-acquainted with money, probably like it, maybe even love it, but we have to be careful, because if we start to worship it, we may lose all other important things in our life because of greed.

Like any tool, money and battle ropes should be learned, understood, and used well.

The Three Biggest Mistakes When Using Battle Ropes

I am sure you have seen this all the time on Instagram or YouTube.

You may even be doing one or all of these mistakes with your battle rope.

I know I did, when I first starting creating waves with the ropes.

It is easy to do, when you don't understand how the waves create force for improved power, strength, or endurance.

These are the three biggest mistakes when using the battle ropes:

  1. Too Much Tension In Your Battle Rope
  2. Gripping Too Hard
  3. Bending Down Too Far "Taco'ing"

We mainly use resistance to train, like weights, dumbbells, etc., so it feels weird when we don't have to immediately fight the tool's tension. This is usually why there is too much tension in your battle ropes, either that, or you want your waves to move down the rope easier (but easier doesn't mean you are getting stronger).

When we have too much tension, or we are not familiar with a tool, our body tends to overcompensate with too much muscular engagement. This is the same with the rope. The tension from...

It’s easy to get caught up in the "bigger is better" mentality and want to grab a few heavy bells. The truth is you want to master with full control each weight before moving on to the next. Certain movements will require heavier bells, but others will need almost excessively light ones especially as you start things off.

Will Battle Ropes Get You Ripped?

If you are looking for a tool that will give you the power, strength, and endurance necessary to get you ripped, the battle ropes will provide all of it and more.

When training to get ripped, there is a hefty amount of adaptation that must be done in the kitchen.

That is not to say, muscles will start to pop and shred, as soon as the diet cleans up....there will be ample work in the gym to get your musculature primed and pumped.

With a program that creates muscular engagement and maximum power, and then ample amounts of strength and strength endurance, followed by great aerobic conditioning and calorie burning, you will be on the right path to that ripped look.

Top Three Reasons Battle Ropes Can Help Your CrossFit Training

 

Crossfit took the fitness industry by storm more than a decade ago, and has improved the attitude and use of high intensity training, interval training, and mixing cardio with heavy weights.

It has also come with its fair share of issues, but with those issues, Crossfit coaches and gyms are searching and pursuing more education and improvements in programming, exercise selection, and modalities to continue to improve the quality of their coaching and programs.

One of the modalities that I have noticed being added to Crossfit gyms (as well as all other gyms and facilities), is battle ropes. This increase of battle ropes in all gyms, including Crossfit boxes, comes with an intrinsic need for education about this tool. For although it seems intuitive (for many exercises with the battle rope, it is) I have not seen an understanding of this highly versatile (albeit misunderstood) training tool.

Kettlebells have the uncanny ability of creating a stronger overall connection. They may not be the best for building maximal strength in certain areas compared to a barbell, but as a tool to create awareness, explosive power, connection and structural integrity of your entire system they really can’t be beat.
 
What you get is what you give and your results will be directly correlated to which movements you choose and how often you do them. The kettlebell already offers a set of unique benefits due to the anatomy of the bell. 
 
The offset nature forces more tension and increases the grip work needed which creates more stability through your upper extremities and shoulders. This is without doing anything other than maintaining a racked position (when the kettlebell is nestled between your forearm and bicep).
